About OpenApproach

The Idea
OpenApproach aims to be a flexible ATC simulation game for all platforms supported by the Qt Toolkit (i.e. at least Windows, Linux, OS X).
The target is to create a simulation, that is on one hand realistic enough, and on the other hand enjoyable by a wide audience. Thorough aviation knowledge will not be required.

Status
The current status of this project must be classified as "pre alpha". Many basic features are yet missing. For example, at the time of writing, all aircraft stay at their initially assigned altitude/flightlevel and maintain their initial airspeed. Still, for testing purposes, I recommend you have a look at it. You can try maintaining separation by just giving lateral instructions - don't worry, collisions will not yet be detected.

Help Needed
Are you a pilot? A controller? Do you have access to navigation data? Typing coordinates and routing information is a lot of work. I am planning to release a fully featured Vienna International Airport with the first stable release. If you would like to participate and add other airports like for example London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Roma Fiumicino,..... then please contact me for instructions, or take a look at LOWW.xml in the tarball.

Hi, if you need aircraft

Hi,

if you need aircraft routing information for development purposes, you could for example also try to simply use multiplayer data from some flight simulator network:

The open source flight simulator flightgear.org has a very simple multiplayer protocol and it is fairly easy to get multiplayer traffic from their servers (fgms.sf.net) .

They are apparently also interested in creating a dedicated ATC client, according to some earlier discussions: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=1905973&group_id=9456&at...

So, maybe they would even appreciate someone helping with this work.

Also, they must obviously already have access to some other data that would be useful, such as navaid and airport positions.
